Akson

Assistive AI for Neurodiversity

Empowering neurodiverse learners through intelligent assistance

GPT API
Flutter

Akson is an assistive application for parents of children with autism and dyslexia, featuring screening tools (autism & dyslexia risk assessment), a therapy playground (image recognition, alphabet learning, audiotherapy), and a simple Q&A chatbot where parents can ask about autism and dyslexia. Validated by child psychologists at Denali Development Center. Developed as a finalist project at GEMASTIK XVI, Indonesia's most prestigious software innovation competition.

Akson Overview

Technical Walkthrough

10-15% of school children worldwide have dyslexia. 500 children in Indonesia are diagnosed with autism every year.

Of 50 million school children in Indonesia, 5 million have dyslexia—yet it's not even recognized in legislation, often equated with intellectual disability. For autism, the stigma is worse: parents feel embarrassed to check whether their child is autistic because society still labels it a 'mental disorder,' when it's actually a developmental condition with complex causes. We met Mrs. Septi, whose son Fathan showed no pointing gestures at 12 months—she spent months in doubt before getting a diagnosis. Her story became the foundation of Akson.

Impact

Top 20 Finalist at GEMASTIK XVI, Indonesia's premier software competition. Patent-holding innovation [HKI]. Validated by child psychologists at Denali Development Center. Screening feature provides risk assessment with percentage scores, plus therapy playground and a Q&A chatbot for parents.

Challenge

5 million Indonesian school children have dyslexia yet it's unrecognized in legislation; autism stigma prevents parents from seeking diagnosis

Dyslexia affects 10-15% of school children worldwide, but in Indonesia it's equated with intellectual disability—there's no legal recognition. Autism prevalence is 1 in 100 children (WHO), with 500 new cases yearly in Indonesia, yet parents feel embarrassed to get their children checked because society mislabels autism as a 'mental disorder.' By the time parents overcome stigma and seek help, critical early intervention windows may have passed.

ML Opportunity

A mobile screening tool that lets parents privately assess autism and dyslexia risk at home, combined with therapy games (image recognition, alphabet, audiotherapy) and a simple Q&A chatbot for asking about autism and dyslexia—reducing stigma barriers and enabling earlier intervention.

Methodology

Rapid Application Development (RAD) with iterative prototyping, combining screening algorithms and therapy games

1
Requirements & Research: Researched autism (WHO: 1 in 100 prevalence) and dyslexia (10-15% of school children) support needs; interviewed parents like Mrs. Septi to understand pain points and stigma barriers
2
Prototyping: Built complete application prototype with screening and playground features using RAD methodology for rapid iteration based on user feedback
3
Screening Development: Implemented autism and dyslexia risk screening with score-based assessment (score out of 20, percentage-based symptom prediction with low/moderate/high risk levels)
4
Validation & Testing: Collaborated with child psychologists at Denali Development Center to validate screening accuracy; tested with both autistic children and neurotypical children to verify prediction reliability
